Removal of Government Oversight

Starting on Jan. 24, the administration has fired 22 government watchdogs. This includes 18 agency inspectors general, who are tasked with examining agency actions to ensure their compliance with the law and uncovering cases of waste, fraud, annd abuse in their agencies. They have also removed three members of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, which is tasked with protecting the American public from government overreach in national security activities, and fired the official responsible for vetting new administration appointees for potential conflicts of interest.

The firings of the State Department Inspector General and director of the Office of Government Ethics removed two officials who would have had oversight and investigative responsibilty into the State Department's proposed $400M Tesla deal, as well as other potential conflicts of interest.
